This paper aims to analyze AI prompts from a linguistic perspective in the context of teaching German as a foreign language, drawing conclusions for university-level teaching practice. Instructions written in the context of communication with artificial intelligence exhibit text-like characteristics and can be classified as a text type. This paper argues for the expansion of the range of text types covered in German as a foreign language teaching to include AI prompts.
