Abstract Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability: A Convention-Theoretical Perspective on Pedagogical and Ethical Challenges between Cooperation, Conflict, and Compromise The digital transformation, driven by technologies like (generative) Artificial Intelligence, profoundly impacts society but entails significant ecological and social challenges. This article combines insights from the Economy and Sociology of Conventions to analyze the interplay of AI, normative values, and sustainability. It emphasizes the need to balance dominant industrial logics with ecological and civic frameworks, aligning AI development with the Sustainable Development Goals. Education and ethical reflection are highlighted as key to steering AI toward empowerment, inclusion, and global awareness. A pluralistic, sustainable approach is essential for a just digital future.
