Abstract This paper presents a compact overview of a decade of research by our department (SDS at DFKI) and external colleagues toward self-organizing personal knowledge assistants in evolving corporate memories. Our research is typically inspired by real-world problems and often conducted in interdisciplinary collaborations with research and industry partners. We summarize a selection of past experiments and results on so-called Managed Forgetting and Self-organizing Context Spaces (cSpaces) as a novel approach to Personal Information Management (PIM) and Knowledge Work (KW) support. The approach already allows for further increasing the automation in PIM and KW, whereas some contributions are only first steps in new directions with untapped potential left to explore.
