Abstract Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming education, research, industry and environmental decision-making, while climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and resource stress demand ecological literacy and responsible innovation. This paper develops a multidisciplinary framework for integrating AI and Environmental Education in higher education under NEP 2020 to strengthen Education for Sustainable Development, green and digital skills, responsible innovation and Viksit Bharat @2047. The study uses a qualitative, conceptual and document-based design based on verified official and authoritative sources. India’s composite SDG Index score rose from 57 in 2018 to 71 in 2023–24; Maharashtra’s composite score in 2023–24 was 69. India had 1,028.61 million internet subscribers on 31 December 2025, while higher-education enrolment reached 4.50 crore in 2023–24. The proposed AI–EE–SDG–VB 2047 Framework is based on curriculum integration, capacity building, data and innovation, community engagement, and ethics and governance. The paper argues that technological progress must be accompanied by ecological intelligence, social inclusion and accountable human judgement.
