While war and strife have always been part of history, modern conflict distinguishes itself by the influence of new technologies and the complex public discourse within the evolving communication ecology. Across different time periods, the mediatization of war and conflict has always been crucial. The media can serve as a tool for resolving and preventing future conflicts while also being used to galvanize public support for war, reinforce stereotypes, and foster hostility toward specific countries or groups. This chapter deals with war reporting and corresponding scholarship: the factors affecting its production, trends and issues in journalistic war framing, and the opportunities and challenges that come with novel technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence.
