This article is divided into two parts, the first examines the topic from the perspective of the universities in the official German-speaking countries, the second takes the foreign perspective using the example of Georgia. The starting point for the discussion is thesis E of the Vienna Theses. The extent to which the recommendations mentioned have been implemented and what further developments have been made will be discussed. The order of the discussion points follows that of the thesis. It only deviates from this at the beginning of the two sections in order to set individual priorities: in the first section, the role of multilingualism at universities in the official German-speaking countries and in the second section, the role of German at Georgian universities. In addition, the argumentation follows the demands of thesis E, which begins with the topic of digitalization, then focuses on cross-border study opportunities and subsequently discusses participatory justice in relation to global mobility. Finally, the question of work-based learning is addressed in both sections of this article.
