The present work investigates relationships between three frameworks to assess positive and negative attitudes towards artificial intelligence or AI (Attitude towards AI scale: ATAI; General Attitude towards AI scale: GAAIS; and two single-item framework). The aim of the present study is not only to understand the degree of overlap between different AI attitude survey tools, but also to understand their links to trust in ChatGPT/Ernie Bot. A final sample of n = 448 participants filled in several measures on AI attitudes and trust in generative AI products (ChatGPT and Ernie Bot). Hence, the present study represents a cross-sectional self-report study. The present work showed robust positive associations between the ATAI, GAAIS and two-item framework’s positive attitude towards AI measures. Further, positive correlations between the scales assessing negative attitudes towards AI were observed. Beyond this, the present work validates in a final sample of n = 448 participants the above-mentioned questionnaires by also investigating their relationships with trusting two prominent generative AI products: ChatGPT by OpenAI and Ernie Bot by Baidu. The study provides evidence for the suitability of using the above-mentioned measures in attitudes towards AI research.
