Scaling Expertise in Endometriosis Diagnosis: Can Artificial Intelligence Close the Gap?

The paradigm shift from laparoscopy to transvaginal sonography for diagnosis With its 2022 guideline on the diagnosis of endometriosis, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) initiated a fundamental change in diagnostic strategy [ 1 ]. Transvaginal sonography (TVS) was established as the primary imaging modality, replacing diagnostic laparoscopy for this purpose. This recommendation has since been adopted by numerous national and international societies, including DEGUM, SGUM, ÖGUM, FIGO, ACOG, SOGC, RANZCOG. In clinical practice, this means a significant upgrade for TVS but also creates greater responsibility for both trainers and trainees [ 2 ].
