ETHICAL ASPECTS OF USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS IN TRANSLATION

The paper deals with the ethical issues faced by translators when using artificial intelligence tools in their work. The relevance of this topic is due to the growing role of artificial intelligence systems and the possibility of their use by translators as auxiliary tools in their professional activities. The purpose of the paper is to study attempts to define the ethics of using artificial intelligence tools by translators in their professional activities. During the study, a set of methods was applied: analysis and synthesis, comparative and descriptive methods, and generalisation. The source base consisted of documents from UNESCO, the European Commission, foreign universities, and translation agency websites. Based on their analysis, the main ethical aspects of using machine translation tools were identified. These include confidentiality, plagiarism, overcoming discrimination and cultural differences, compliance with copyright provisions, prevention of manipulative influences, and adequacy of calculations regarding the remuneration of translators in the case of translations performed using artificial intelligence. Confidentiality requires careful handling of personal and business data, its protection, and compliance with relevant legal provisions. Plagiarism is considered to be the use of already translated texts as one's own translation. The issue of copyright compliance for materials translated using artificial intelligence remains unresolved and open. Recognising discriminatory statements generated by artificial intelligence systems is also important for translator ethics. The attitude of translators and translation agencies towards payment for work performed using artificial intelligence tools must be fair and ethical towards clients. Further research may focus on comparing the findings of foreign and domestic scholars regarding translator ethics when performing translations using machine translation tools, as well as developing relevant recommendations for implementation in translator training.
