Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming organisational processes and leadership practices. While existing research has extensively examined AI in relation to leadership activities, decision-making, communication, and organisational performance, considerably less attention has been paid to its influence on recurring leadership routines. This thesis addresses this research gap by examining how artificial intelligence influences leadership routines in organisational contexts. A structured narrative literature review was conducted, integrating research on artificial intelligence, leadership, organisational routines, and routine dynamics. The literature was analysed using a CIMO-based framework and subsequently interpreted through the theoretical lens of routine dynamics. The findings indicate that AI influences leadership routines primarily through leadership mechanisms rather than through direct technological substitution. The analysis applies an existing classification of ten AI artefact categories from the literature and identifies ten leadership mechanisms and eleven leadership routine categories comprising 64 individual leadership routines. Decision-making emerged as the most prominently affected routine category. Furthermore, AI-related routine transformation was found to occur predominantly at the performative level, with changes in the enactment of leadership routines potentially contributing over time to adaptations in their ostensive dimensions.
