Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the accounting and auditing profession by automating mundane tasks, analyzing financial information, and enabling decision making. Traditionally, accounting consists of processes such as data entry, transaction classification, reconciliation, invoice processing, and financial reporting. Auditing entails analyzing financial records, risk assessment, verifying transactions, and internal controls. AI will make these processes faster, more accurate, and efficient. There are many AI technologies that are employed in a variety of accounting and auditing activities. Such AI technologies include machine learning, natural language processing, robotic process automation, and data analytics. In accounting, AI will facilitate invoice processing, expense classification, financial forecasting, and reporting. For auditing, the technologies may help detect fraud, perform risk assessment, recognize anomalies, and analyze transactions. AI will examine large sets of data to help professionals concentrate on significant areas.AI brings several advantages to the table, including less work done manually, higher precision, increased speed and efficiency of processes, and improved decision making. AI also allows accountants and auditors to focus more on analytical and interpretative processes and perform strategic activities. But AI also comes with several disadvantages like poor data quality, privacy issues, cyber security threats, algorithmic bias, and a lack of transparency. The use of AI is causing changes in skills that accountants and auditors have to possess. Thus, AI should be viewed as a support tool for accountants and auditors rather than a replacement of human experts. The future of the profession is likely to involve the combination of AI technology and human expertise. Artificial Intelligence can be helpful in enhancing decision making in the area of finance. The system uses previous financial data, market knowledge and other relevant information about the business to provide some valuable insight to managers and accountants. It will assist in the preparation of budgets, forecast of cash flow, identification of risks associated with finances.
