The development of Integrated Theatre Commands in the Indian Armed Forces represents a revolutionary change in the structural paradigm, with the objective of realising greater jointness. This paper focuses on the imperative role of Big Data Analytics (BDA) in optimising the Theaterisation process. In the modern battlespace, where multi-domain battles are the new norm, characterised by information-centric warfare, BDA assumes the role of the linchpin in the quest for ‘Decision Dominance’. This research evaluates the potential of BDA in revolutionising the effectiveness of critical Theatre Command functions, including integrated C4ISR services towards realising a ‘Common Operating Picture’, predictive logistics, dynamic mobilisation of forces, and precision in joint fires. It also assesses the potential of BDA in resolving the inherent challenges of interoperability, including the development of complex electronic warfare capabilities. While acknowledging the challenges involved in implementing the concept of data silos, cyber threats, and skill sets, the paper argues that the integration of BDA into the Indian military is not only a technological upgrade but rather a doctrinal imperative. The paper concludes that the application of the principles of data-centric warfare within the Theaterisation construct is vital for achieving strategic overmatch on the Line of Actual Control, Indian Ocean Region, and other theaters of operation, thus a future-ready network-enabled force.
