An Approach Towards the Possible Implementation of Pictograms in Subtitles for the Deaf Community to Represent Sound Effects

Accessibility in audiovisual media has been a topic of growing interest, especially in relation to the inclusion of people with hearing disabilities.Subtitles have been an essential tool in making audiovisual content accessible to the deaf community.However, text alone may not fully convey the visual and auditory experience that accompanies a film, television program, or online video.This is where the use of images can make a significant difference in the accessibility experience.The use of pictograms in subtitles could represent an innovative tool for inclusion by improving audiovisual content for people with hearing impairment.This article reviews the existing literature on accessibility in audiovisual media, explores the use of pictograms in subtitles, and analyzes their impact on the understanding and experience of deaf users.The challenges and opportunities of implementing this technique in different cultural and technological contexts are also discussed.
